Things to Look For
No home venue exists without its quirks and traditions, and the Distinctive Homes Dome is hardly an exception. Whether you're returning for another season of watching your favourite team, or coming to a game for the first time, keep an eye out for a few things...
Championship banners
The Adelaide 36ers are one of the NBL's most successful clubs. Check the rafters for an acknowledgement of the team's past glories.
Celebrity: Doug Hawkins.
More in the rafters
Near the main entrance to the Distinctive Homes Dome balances a hint to past use of the venue. There's a beam mounted between two girders from a night when the Distinctive Homes Dome was used for a gymnastics show (think trapeze act). After the event, the beam was left there.
Sports Celebrities
It's not uncommon to spot Adelaide sports identities in the crowd of a 36ers game. Crows star Andrew McLeod is often at games sitting courtside opposite the visitors bench, Ken McGregor usually attends, Lleyton Hewitt has been at the end of the 36ers bench, and members from other teams such as the Redbacks, Thunderbirds and Port Power are invited to check out the action.
Hit the Road Jack
In NBL basketball, six personal fouls sees a player removed from the game. In the event that an opponent fouls out in Adelaide, the 36ers Music Man is always quick to play a relevant tune and no committed fan can resist the chance to wave goodbye to a visiting player.
Boti Nagy
Long-time basketball journalist for The Advertiser, Boti Nagy sits amidst the crowd taking his game notes. Look for him on the diagonal up towards the corporate suites closest to the Apollo Restaurant. You can also spot him leaving his seat to start his match report for the newspaper at the main break and conclusion of the game.
Game nights: Masked Mystery.
Masked Mystery
This one's a bit of a mystery so far, but keep an eye out for a child wearing a bizarre blue, yellow and red mask. So many questions, so few answers...
