Game Preview: Tigers vs 36ers
5/JAN/2007 – This Saturday night sees the Adelaide Pura Milk 36ers visit the Melbourne Tigers in Melbourne.
Earlier this season, the Tigers comfortably accounted for Adelaide, winning 118-96 after the 36ers had played Townsville the night before.
This time, the tables have turned. The Tigers are already in Wollongong where they play the Hawks tonight and will need to return home to host Adelaide straight away.
That leaves no time for preparation while Phil Smyth's team enter the game having had a week to get ready.
In the 2006/07 season, reigning champions Melbourne are one of the powerhouse teams and sit in second place on the ladder, but you could excuse the 36ers for being optimistic.
On New Year's Eve, they upset the 16-7 Perth Wildcats to move within striking distance of the league's top eight. A win against the Tigers could realise that hope and Saturday's game comes with some people considering Melbourne to be a little relaxed.
The Tigers boast talent at every position - two contributing imports in Dave Thomas and Rashad Tucker, star centre Chris Anstey, point guard Darryl McDonald and stat-fiend Stephen Hoare.
That should be more than enough to ensure they enter as favourites, though Brett Maher and Willie Farley are in form, Nick Horvath can trouble any frontcourt, and Lanard Copeland rarely fails to impress when returning to his NBL first-home.
