New 36er named in Boomers squad
Adelaide 36ers recruit Stephen Weigh has been included in the Boomers squad announced today.
The recently announced squad will be competing for a place in the 12-man Boomers team to firstly compete in the Stankovic Cup in China and then the all-important FIBA Oceania Championships against the New Zealand Tall Blacks, where an automatic berth at the London Olympic Games is at stake. Stephen is recognised as one of Australia’s future Boomers stars, having a great junior career including winning the prestigious Bob Staunton medal for the best player at the National under 20 Championship in 2005 and having great success at the NBL level.
He was a key member of Perth’s 2009/10 NBL championship winning team.36ers Coach Marty Clarke said of Weigh, “Stephen is a multi-skilled player and at 200cm (6’7”) can play both inside and out and will be hoping to impress the Boomers Head Coach (Brett Brown)”. Weigh missed the earlier Boomers camp and the China series with a wrist injury but is now back to full fitness, looking very sharp in his first training sessions with his new team mates this week in Adelaide. Weigh averaged 11points and 5.
