After a long negotiation process, the Adelaide 36ers have secured the signature of former league MVP, Gary Ervin for the 2013/14 NBL season.
Ervin, 29, from the University of Arkansas won the NBL MVP with the Wollongong Hawks in 2010/11 before slotting in to the vacant point guard spot at Townsville Crocs last season. Ervin won the Crocs MVP award last season and was the NBL’s 3rd highest scorer averaging 16.8ppg at 43%.
In Gary’s NBL career he has averaged 18.4 points per game @ 43%, 4.5 assists and 3.6 rebounds, making him one of the leagues premier players.
New 36ers head coach Joey Wright said “It’s no secret we were keen to get Gary to Adelaide and to finally have his signature is very exciting. He not only makes us a better team, he will make the players around him better.”
General Manager, Dean Parker said “We were very keen to have a premier point guard to lead the team this season and Gary certainly ticks all the boxes. Everything we are doing is all about winning and this is another positive step in that direction”.
The plan is for Ervin to join the team when they travel to China in August for a pre-season tournament.
The addition of Ervin brings the 36ers roster to 9 players, Adam Gibson, Daniel Johnson, Mitch Creek, Luke Schenscher, Jason Cadee, Anthony Petrie, BJ Anthony and Brendan Teys. The club still has room for one more import which they are hopeful to lock away soon.
