Adelaide 36ers set to close out pre-season campaign against South East Melbourne Phoenix

Adelaide will be looking to go a perfect 3-0 at the NBL Blitz when the 36ers battle South East Melbourne Phoenix on Friday afternoon at Gold Coast Sports & Leisure Centre.

Coming off a tough 98-91 win against New Zealand Breakers on Wednesday, the 36ers will face a Phoenix side full of confidence after their 12-point win against Sydney Kings.

Power forward Alex Starling said the 36ers will focus on taking the next step in the pre-season process.

“Every game, every team in this league is going to be a tough test,” Starling said.

“We want to stick to our mantra of pushing the needle forward and get better, even if it’s one per cent per day.

“We will prepare the same way (on Thursday) as we did yesterday (Tuesday) to get ready for another big game.”

Adelaide will be keen to limit the input of Phoenix import pair Joe Wieskamp and Matt Hurt, who combined for 42 points against the Kings. themselves.

The Kings led by as much as 14 points, but the Phoenix overpowered Sydney in the second half with Wieskamp (24 points, 5/6 three-point shooting) and Hurt (18 points, four rebounds, four assists) leading the way.

Starling, who started against the Breakers, said he is prepared to do anything required for success.

“I’ll do whatever I can do help the team, whether that’s a tough box out, rebound, run the ball and defensively bring that energy to the group,” Starling said.
