The Adelaide 36ers have joined the State Government’s campaign to disrupt the link between sport and the gambling industry to put up a strong defence against the normalisation of sports betting and remind their fans to be Here for the Game for the next three years.
Here For The Game forms part of a broader prevention initiative to raise awareness and educate the community about the risks attached to sports betting and ways to keep themselves safe.
Minister for Human Services Nat Cook is delighted to welcome the Adelaide 36ers to what is a very successful ongoing campaign.
“Sports betting is increasingly creeping into our everyday lives to become the fastest-growing form of gambling in South Australia,” Minister Cook said.
“I’m concerned about the impact this is having on our community and how normal it makes sports betting whilst enjoying or participating in sport appear to be.”
Adelaide 36ers CEO Nic Barbato said the club is looking forward to spreading the Here For The Game message among fans and the wider South Australian community.
“As a sporting club who aims to be known for providing families with entertaining athletic performances and healthy role models, we are proud to take a stand against sports betting,” Barbato said.
The advertising campaign challenges cultural norms around sport and gambling in the community, encouraging young people, their parents and peers to focus on the positive aspects of sport, such as the atmosphere and memories it creates, rather than gambling during sporting events.
This year’s advertising campaign will include on-ground, television, radio, outdoor, online, and social media ads featuring player ambassadors Mitch McCarron and Sunday Dech.
