36ers ready for NBL25 free agency moves

Adelaide 36ers General Manager of Basketball Operations Matt Weston said the club is in a good spot to make some significant moves heading into NBL25 season and beyond.

The club will head into NBL Free Agency, which starts next Monday, with five contracted players locked away for the NBL25 season.

“We made two big re-signings with Isaac (Humphries) and DJ (Vasiljevic) committing for three years, so that’s a significant start,” Weston said.

“That’s great Australian talent to have on your roster in key pieces, and we need to build around them.”

Headlined by the re-signings of Isaac Humphries and DJ Vasiljevic, the star local duo will be joined by local swingman Nick Marshall, point guard Jason Cadee and lockdown defender Sunday Dech.

Weston said the mutual option on Jacob Wiley will not be taken up for next season, making the import power forward a free agent.

“Jacob was a great player for us, but we just need some different dynamics in that position,” Weston said.

Next Star Trentyn Flowers is also contracted for next season, but the swingman is expected to declare for the 2024 NBA Draft.

Weston said the club is in the process of building a roster not just for NBL25, but beyond.

“We feel it’s important to not only focus on next season, but also preparing for the seasons ahead, bringing in consistency and stability to the club,” he said.

NBL Free Agency begins next Monday, April 15.
