The Adelaide 36ers will head up north to take on the Cairns Taipans at the new Pop-Up Arena for two 2020/21 Hungry Jacks NBL Pre-season games.
The two games will take place on Thursday 7 and Saturday 9 January and will be live streamed by the NBL with the first game closed to the general public.
It will give the Adelaide 36ers another two opportunities to play pre-season games before the official start of their NBL season, with their first game at home at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre against the Sydney Kings on 17 January.
It will also be the first time that two Next Star players Adelaide 36ers Josh Giddey and Cairns Taipan’s Next Star Mojave King’s will go head to head as professional NBL players with the both preparing for the 2021 NBA Draft.
General Manager of Basketball Jeff Van Groningen said the team is looking forward to traveling to Cairns to take on the Taipans.
“These will be two really valuable high-level preseason games. Two elite young talents, Giddey and King, will be out there and we know the Taipans are one of the NBL’s stronger teams. It’ll be a great test for our squad”, Van Groningen said.
Head Coach Conner Henry is looking forward to heading north and giving the team another good hit out.
“The Club is looking forward to going on the road to play Cairns for two quick games before our official start. Having both imports amongst the group and getting out of town to experience a road game with all the changes to the roster and lengthy preseason should give us a good indication of where were at collectively.”
Adelaide 36ers new imports Donald Sloan and Tony Crocker will travel with the team to Cairns.
