The Adelaide 36ers are proud to announce the signing of highly credentialed centre Isaac Humphries on a two-year deal.

The 22-year-old, 211cm former NBL Rookie of the Year returns to Australia after high-level stints in both Europe and the United States. He most recently played in the NBA G League with Lakeland Magic, averaging 8.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game during his second season. A season earlier, he made his NBA debut with the Atlanta Hawks on a 10-day contract.

Chairman Grant Kelley said, “Isaac Humphries was an extremely sought-after player, and so we are delighted he chose to join the 36ers. Isaac will make our squad more competitive, which we promised our fans would be our #1 objective for the coming season, given the challenges of last season.”

Isaac Humphries is optimistic and excited to join the Adelaide 36ers. “I’m really excited to get down to Adelaide and to get around my new teammates and to see the city, I also can’t wait to get started with Coach Henry I think we are putting together an excellent group of guys, I just can’t wait to get there to start!” Humphries said.

Adelaide 36ers memberships are now available

Humphries made his international basketball debut playing for Australia at the FIBA Under-17 World Cup in 2014 where he became a recruiting target of NCAA basketball powerhouse Kentucky Wildcats. He spent from 2015-2017 under legendary coach John Calipari before turning professional.

Adelaide 36ers General Manager of Basketball Jeff Van Groningen, who formerly worked with the Sydney Kings strongly pursued Humphries to bring the young Australian talent into the NBL ranks for the first time. Humphries signed with the Kings and put together a strong 2017-2018 season culminating in his NBL Rookie of the year award.

Head Coach Conner Henry looks forward to working with Isaac, “He is a complete offensive five-man - he can play inside as a dominant scorer or stretch the floor out to three-point range.”

“Throughout the recruiting process, we identified Isaac as the ideal fit for our team, and with DJ next to him going forward we feel we just got a lot stronger in the front court. He is a quality young man, a high-level player, and has plenty of upside still to come. We couldn’t be happier to have him part of the 36ers team,” Coach Henry concluded.

Van Groningen added, “Isaac is a guy who brings so much to a program. I’ve been fortunate to see that first-hand. His qualities as a person will add greatly to the 36ers and that’s before he even steps on the floor. The basketball side will take care of itself. He is a talent.”

Humphries joins Josh Giddey as key new signings with further new player and coaching announcements to be made in coming weeks.

The Adelaide 36ers commence pre-season on 1 September at Titanium Security Arena, with the NBL21 season start date announced for 3 December.
