Adelaide 36ers head coach CJ Bruton said new recruit DJ Vasiljevic has given his side the added boost it needed to move forward in the NBL24 season.
Vasiljevic has played in the past three matches for the 36ers, with the club now on a two-game winning streak after Thursday night’s 97-85 win against New Zealand Breakers in Auckland.
Bruton said the addition of Vasiljevic has given his side another dimension at both ends of the floor.
“DJ, again fits in seamlessly and was able to do what he does well and add another string to our bow and allow for us to be a little more aggressive,” Bruton said.
Bruton said it’s not just about making big shots for Vasiljevic, who scored a team-high 24 points against the Breakers, but following the game plan.
“You got to make shots, but you also got to do what you’re asked to do by the coaching staff,” Bruton said.
“Seeing him (Vasiljevic) stepping out a shooting the deep ball brought back memories, but also staying the course, how we all play off each other.”
The 190cm guard was everywhere against the Breakers, dishing five assists and grabbing four rebounds, while also spending time on Breakers gun import Anthony Lamb.
“He’s tough, from a junior to a senior to a pro that’s who he is, and he carries that, he’s got the respect from everyone, not only our team, but the league,” Bruton said.
“But I need him to do more, just like AC (Antonius Cleveland) got to do more last season.
“His ability to not only create scores but also score the ball makes him a danger anytime he has it or he is on the floor.”
