Bryce the Boomer

Bryce Cotton will make his Australian Boomers debut at the upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifiers at RAC Arena in Perth, Western Australia.

After calling Australia home for nearly a decade, Cotton officially became an Australian in September when he received his citizenship at a ceremony in Adelaide.

A Boomers debut will cap an incredible first season with the Adelaide 36ers for Cotton, who won the club MVP award and was named the NBL’s MVP for a sixth time before guiding the Sixers to the final of the inaugural Ignite Cup and to within seconds of the championship.

Cotton will make his long-anticipated appearance in the green and gold for the Boomers when they face Guam on 3 July and Philippines on 6 July.

Speaking alongside the Associate Head Coach of the Boomers, Dean Vickerman at an announcement event this morning, Cotton beamed.

“Representing the Australian men’s national basketball team for the first time is something I don’t take lightly. Coming from where I come from, this opportunity means a lot to me and my family,” said Cotton.

“Australia has embraced me from day one, and I’m grateful for the chance to wear the green and gold alongside a great group of guys.

“I’m excited, motivated, and ready to give everything I have for the country.”

The upcoming window provides the Boomers an opportunity to integrate the naturalised Australian as the campaign to the FIBA 2027 World Cup gains momentum. 

“We’re excited to see what Bryce looks like as part of the Boomers program,” said Jason Smith, EGM of High Performance.

“We feel like he’s a great cultural fit and obviously he has a dynamic playmaking ability which has been on display with his performances at the elite level over the last decade.”

“We think he’ll suit the physicality of the international format and the July window in Perth it will give us a solid look at how he integrates to the FIBA game.” added Smith.

It will be a familiar setting for Cotton’s debut with the Boomers July window to be hosted  in Perth, where he spent nine seasons, and as was announced alongside WA Tourism and TEG Sport on 26 March.
