Clark: 'Can't wait to get started'

New Adelaide 36ers recruit Ian Clark says he ‘can’t wait to get started’ after arriving in town on Thursday.

The 190cm combo was met at the airport by head coach CJ Bruton and said he’s grateful to finally arrive in Adelaide.

“Its good to get off the plane, I’m excited. This has been brewing for a little while, but I finally got things done,” Clark said.

Clark said the discussions about joining Adelaide only ramped up in the past seven days.

“I’m not too sure on my agents side, for me it’s been about a week when I talked to coach little bit earlier last week, trying to get things rolling, seeing if we are on the same page with everything and obviously we were so I’m ready to get the ball started,” Clark said.

The 2017 NBA champion is a big chance to make his NBL23 debut as early as Christmas Eve against South East Melbourne Phoenix on Saturday.

“Possibly, I will see how I go at practice tomorrow and get my legs under me,” he said.

“I’ve been doing some of my own workouts, but obviously 5-on-5 is different, I want to be diligent about that, but at the same time I want to get out there and get started.

“I just want to plug in where I can and do what I can.”

Clark said the rapport with Bruton was started really early in the conversations.

“We know some of the same people, he’s coached a lot of guys that I have worked out with and played with so, a lot of it was really basketball talk,” Clark said.

“Where we want to go as an organisation and as a team and if I was to come in, where would I fit.”

Clark has only been to Adelaide twice before, with the Kings during NBL22, for two wins.

“I have only played once, actually it was my second game last year, the other time we came here I was hurt.

“I haven’t been around the city a lot, I know some of the guys on the team, like AC (Cleveland), we are from the same city and I have been keeping up with them over the past week.”

“I’m just going to come in and be myself, I’m not going to do too much, last year it was kind of the same situation, coming in mid-season.

“So I’m going to try and do the same thing, get myself to where I am needed, use my voice when it’s needed and just play basketball.”
