Adelaide 36ers shooting guard Sunday Dech says winning culture takes time to build despite his side’s promising start to the NBL23 campaign.
After defeating the reigning champion Sydney Kings 92-88 at Qudos Bank Arena on Friday night, Dech said the 36ers are still a work in progress and are continuing to build their chemistry.
“I think winning culture takes time to build,” Dech said. “I think we have tried to establish that throughout the pre-season in Darwin and in the US.
“We don’t really have the right to say that as yet but I think we are heading in the right direction.
“Come ask me that question in February.”
The 36ers, with a 2-1 record, welcome New Zealand to Brett Maher Court this Friday night and Dech said the side has its full focus on the Breakers, who are coming off a tough 68-64 win in Cairns against the Taipans.
“All eyes are on New Zealand now, they are playing really good basketball and have had a couple of really good wins,” Dech said.
“We will prepare for them just like we would any other team.”
Dech said Adelaide, who have been subject to added exposure after the pre-season win against Phoenix Suns, is accepting the role of being the hunted.
“We have a target on us every week and we have to embrace that,” Dech said.
“We just have to eliminate that outside noise and focus on what we have to work on.”
