Hey 36ers fans,
Welcome to the Christmas edition of DJ’s corner. We received an early Christmas present this year with the first five rounds of the schedule being released. This means we finally have something locked in and to look forward too. We open the new season with a home game against the Sydney Kings on January 17 and are fortunate to have six of our first eight games in Adelaide at the Entertainment Centre, hopefully at almost full capacity.
With under a month until the season gets underway we’re planning to have a short break over Christmas to give everyone a chance to get back to see their families and then ramping up everything once we return. Great news for the team is once we’re back training we’ll have both of our imports, Donald and Tony, out of quarantine and joining the group. We’ve also committed to playing two games against the Taipans in Cairns which will be a great opportunity for us to have some hit outs with our full roster and build some great momentum into Round 1.
The NBL Cup was announced recently which will see us play eight games over a 30-day period in Melbourne. It will be a great opportunity for us to get away as a team without any distractions. It will have its challenges but I think it’s a great initiative by the NBL to make sure we’re banking away games in case COVID-19 causes some complications. It now means that there will be 36 regular seasons games which is great for fans to see more basketball.
Having my family in Perth and my wife’s family in Adelaide we alternate Christmases in each state. Luckily it was our turn to stay in Adelaide this year as the borders with WA are currently still shut. We’re big Christmas fans in our household so my wife made us put up the tree at the start of November and have been watching Christmas movies ever since. I’m looking forward to having a couple of days off to enjoy time with family and enjoy all of the great food on offer.
This year has obviously been very challenging but I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and hope you all have a well-deserved break. Look forward to seeing everyone in the new year when the season finally begins.
