The Adelaide 36ers’ involvement in the NZNBL for 2022 has come to an end after two disappointing defeats this week.

Hawkes Bay Hawks, led by newly-signed assistant coach Mick Downer and features 36ers forward Hyrum Harris, were eliminated from the championship race after a 91-80 loss to Otago Nuggets on Wednesday night.

Harris contributed 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had four steals, but the Hawks were playing catch-up basketball after trailing 42-35 at the main interval.

Hawkes Bay qualified for the playoffs after they defeated Sunday Dech’s Canterbury Rams 95-87 in overtime in the final round of the season last Friday night.

Harris was a force for the Hawks in the win against the Rams, he scored 25 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to go with four steals and four blocks.

Dech battled hard for the Rams, but his 15 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals were not enough to get his club into the playoffs.
