Adelaide 36ers big man Daniel Johnson will be aiming for another gold medal this off-season when the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham start this week.
After claiming top spot on the podium at the recent FIBA Asia Cup in Singapore, Johnson will be aiming to make it a perfect two-from-two in only his second 3x3 basketball tournament.
“We are trying to win, we did well at the Asia Cup, so we are hoping to go over there and win some games,” Johnson said.
The seven-time Adelaide 36ers MVP said New Zealand will be one of the Aussies’ main rivals in Birmingham but did admit there are some unknown quantities from the other nations.
“We will see what happens when we get over there,” he said.
“We played New Zealand at the Asia Cup, so they will be tough.”
Johnson is relishing his chance to pull on the green and gold singlet and enjoys the 3x3 format.

“I thought my opportunities for doing all that (representing Australia) was all done so I’m really excited,” he said.
“You can’t really foul out, so guys are making their fouls count and most of the guys there are a bit undersized, so it suits my game.”
The Australian campaign begins against Trinidad & Tobago on Saturday.
