Marshall dominant but Pioneers fall short

Nick Marshall's 25 points and nine rebounds wasn't enough for his Mount Gambier Pioneers, as they succumbed to the Hobart Chargers 62-78 in the NBL1 South grand final on Saturday night.

The Pioneers got out to a perfect start and led by 10 at quarter-time, with Marshall leading the way with 10 points in the opening stanza.

The second quarter was a complete 180 on the first, with the Chargers taking command, outscoring the Pioneers 22-6 to take the lead into half-time.

Marshall again led the charge to get his team back into the game, scoring another 11 points, but the Chargers extended their lead.

Hobart maintained its control throughout the last and repelled any Mount Gambier attack to run out NBL1 South champions.
