Marshall fires in Pioneers' opening double

Newly re-signed Adelaide 36ers swingman Nick Marshall has got his NBL1 South campaign off to an impressive start on the weekend.

The 198cm guard/forward averaged 30 points per game across a weekend double header as Mount Gamiber Pioneers defeated Sandringham Sabres and Nunawading Spectres to start the season 2-0.

Marshall scored a game-high 32 points to go with six rebounds in Mount Gambier’s 119-89 success against the Sabres on Saturday night.

The club’s Most Improved Player across the NBL23 season was on fire from downtown, connecting on eight out of 10 from beyond the arc.

Marshall and the Pioneers backed up brilliantly on Sunday with a tough 104-94 success against the Spectres, with Marshall scoring 28 points to go with another six rebounds and six assists.

The Pioneers will have the Easter weekend off before playing their first home game against Casey Cavaliers on Friday, April 14.

Mitch McCarron stuffed the stats sheet last Friday night as West Adelaide Bearcats recorded their first win of the NBL1 Central campaign, a strong 94-80 success on the road against Norwood Flames.

McCarron scored 20 points, dished 10 assists, hauled down eight rebounds and had seven steals as the Bearcats built an early lead at The Arc against the Flames and were never really challenged.

The 189cm combo guard also threw down another big slam dunk on the break to have back-to-back highlights in his new red and black colours.

Fraser Roxburgh added five points and two rebounds off the bench for the Bearcats, who now go to 1-1 for the season.

West Adelaide will be back in action on Good Friday with a blockbuster clash against South Adelaide Panthers at Port Adelaide Recreation Centre.

Kyrin Galloway had a night out on the Gold Coast as Ipswich Force fought back from an early deficit to run over Rollers 108-88 on Saturday.

Galloway had a game-high 28 points to go with six rebounds and four blocks as the Force improved to a 2-0 record.

Development player Cameron Thew had 14 points and seven rebounds for the Rollers.

Ipswich are back in action after the Easter break when they host South West Metro Pirates at home on Sunday, April 16, while the Rollers will have a double header, away to Logan Thunder and home to South West Metro Pirates.
