Australia avoided a major boilover at the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup on Thursday, posting a comfortable 76-52 win over Saudi Arabia after a first half scare.
Saudi Arabia, ranked 80th in the world, gave the Boomers an almighty fright, leading by as much as six points in the second quarter, before the Boomers sparked to life to go 2-0.
Adelaide 36ers and Boomers captain Mitch McCarron continued to show his consistent play on the world stage, scoring 10 points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing three assists.

McCarron is a natural-born leader, his calmness and composure running the point guard position was evident and he took charge when the Boomers were in trouble during the opening half.
The 30-year-old shows all the key element of the Boomers’ culture, showing his team first attitude, hitting the big shots and playing intense defence.
Australia will now face host nation Indonesia on Saturday.
