Resilience key to United success: Bruton

Adelaide 36ers head coach CJ Bruton was thrilled with how his side had the focus to bounce back to come way with a 91-86 victory against Melbourne United on Thursday night at John Cain Arena.
United, sparked by 13 final quarter points from Rayjon Tucker, all but erased Adelaide’s 10-point three quarter time lead, reducing the margin to 74-73 on the back of a 14-0 during the final stanza.
“I saw resilience, we have been in some tough spots in the early part of this year,” Bruton said.
“To see us dig out when we have been challenged, we have been able to maintain it and find a way to execute and dig down deep to get some stops we needed to get.”
Adelaide’s offense had a different look early as the 36ers looked to go inside and use their inside dominance against a United side missing new import signing Marcus Lee and point guard Shea Ili.
“We are playing a little more patient and moving the ball a little bit more helped,” Bruton said.
“That takes time, we are still trying to find our groove the same as Melbourne. We are missing players, so are Melbourne.
“We are still trying to find our identity and build on what you see and vision as being, we are no where near the finished product and I’m glad we were able to grind this one out.”
Bruton said he was pleased to see his squad respond after the club and Craig Randall II mutually agreed on a release last week.
“As I said to the boys, I’m happy for all of us, for everything our club has gone through, you are just happy to deal with situations and able to stay together and continue to focus on what the task is,” Bruton said.
“We came here as every team in the NBL does and that is to try and be successful, sometimes that looks different on different days of the week and continue on what we are building and move forward.”
The next assignment comes on Sunday in Auckland against the New Zealand Breakers.
