'We need to continue to get better': McCarron

Adelaide 36ers captain Mitch McCarron said the team needs to 'continue to get better' after the New Year's Eve loss in Cairns.

Speaking to media on Monday morning, McCarron said the team will review the game and learn from it.

"We had some good patches where we built a lead pretty quickly," he said.

"We didn't play that well throughout the game and that inconsistency definitely showed up at the end of the game.

"Turnovers didn't help, we probably ignited their break and I think they had their backs against the wall and said screw it, let's throw everything at them and go full court and play with some energy.

"To their credit, they did a good job with that.

"I think we need to continue to get better and executing at the end of the game, whether we have a lead or if its tight, we're down a few, we need to refine what we need to do and what shots we need to get.

"It sucks, we've got to go back and look at that game and remember that feeling in the locker room and say we don't want to feel that way every again.

"The biggest mistake would be to dwell on that though and carry that onto the next weekend, we have another double header."

The result leaves the 36ers in seventh, with games against Illawarra and New Zealand coming this weekend.

"Hopefully it hasn't [halted our momentum], we've played some really good basketball and we played some good basketball in that game," McCarron said.

"It's not all doom and gloom, we had a very bad five or six minutes and it cost us the win, but if we go back, review it and fix it this week at practice, then we can get back to where we were going.

"Everyone's in this dogfight right now, it's really tight. One win on the weekend and we go to fourth, lose one game and drop to seventh.

"Our aspirations haven't changed."

McCarron missed the record crowd in the win against Brisbane through illness, and he's pumped to get in front of the 36ers family again.

"The crowd has been spectacular," he said.

"I was home watching but I could still hear it on the TV and the guys were talking about how fun it is at home.

"We're excited about having a double header at home."
