Adelaide 36ers welcome Mike Wells to the role of head coach as the club aims to give the NBL25 roster the best possible chance to succeed.
Wells replaces Scott Ninnis, who was released on Monday morning, and made this tough decision early to give the club the best chance for success this season.
A veteran of almost three decades in the NBA, Wells will be joined by assistant coach Marko Marinovic, fresh off a bronze medal as part of Serbian national team at the Paris Olympics.
Adelaide 36ers CEO Nic Barbato said the club wanted to reset the basketball culture, and this decision is one which will give the club the best possible chance to succeed this season.
“We understand this is a tough decision, but one we feel needed to be made for us and where we want to go as a professional basketball organisation,” Barbato said.
“Scott is a legend of the club and we respect him for all of his efforts and he has been offered a community role with the club moving forward.”
GM of Basketball Operations Matt Weston said the decision was made before the season to give the NBL25 roster the best chance to achieve their goals.
“It’s better to make the call early, as there is still time to put things in place,” Weston said.
“These are hard calls, but they are the right calls.”
