Galloway positive despite opening weekend

Adelaide 36ers highflying power forward Kyrin Galloway is confident his side can turn around a 0-2 opening weekend to the NBL24 season as soon as this round.

The 36ers face a tough double-header on the road in round two, travelling to Perth for a battle with arch rivals the Wildcats on Friday night, before fronting up less than 48 hours later in Sydney against the Kings.

“We know 0-2 isn’t the best way to start the season and it’s not the start we were looking for, but I think going into this weekend we can get some wins on the board,” Galloway said on Tuesday.

“The mood after a loss is not the best, but we are trying to stay positive, we have got a lot of good stuff to focus on, as long as we iron out the bad, we would be good to go.

“We have been playing well for 30 minutes, but just a couple of bad streaks we had put us in the position where we are fighting back going into the final stretch.

“If we iron out our offensive execution down the stretch, I think we would be good.”

Galloway, who was an instant impact off the bench against Melbourne United, said he saw the team grow over the course of the past weekend.

“From game one to game two, I think there was a lot of improvement, just meshing as a team comes with time,” he said.

“Defensively I think we have taken a big step, I know we lost both games, but we held teams to around 80 points and last year we were giving up in the 100s, the improvements are coming.

“We know the pieces we have, and we know we can be a great team and we have shown some flashes.”

In his fourth NBL season, the 72-game forward had a team-high nine rebounds and blocked three shots against United, while bringing the big home crowd to life with a thunderous dunk in the first quarter.

“I had some great moments last weekend, but I too had some moments I wish I had back, there’s those little things we all need to iron out,” he said.

“I just go out there and do what I can do in the minutes I get, hopefully I can get a role.”

Galloway was at St Clair Recreation Centre on Tuesday along with Jason Cadee, Trey Kell, Nick Marshall and Keanu Rasmussen on the opening day of the HomeStart School Holiday clinics.

The 203cm power forward said it’s great to give back to the fans and supporters and give the next generation some tips and tricks on court.

“The fans are a big part of what this is, they showed out even last year when we weren’t going as well,” Galloway said.

“It’s great to give back, be out at these camps and doing all the signing sessions, we like showing the love, but as a coach, maybe I’m more in the role of skills development.”
