Introducing: Our NBL24 Indigenous Jersey

Introducing our NBL24 Indigenous jersey, designed by Aboriginal Basketball Academy student Jada Fitzgerald.

The club has proudly worn the NBL24 Indigenious jersey against Perth Wildcats at RAC Arena earlier this month, before it makes its home court debut on Friday night against South East Melbourne Phoenix.

ABOUT OUR ARTIST - JADA FITZGERALD
Jada Fitzgerald is a proud Kaurna/Narungga woman from the Adelaide Plains and Yorke Peninsula.

Born and raised in the Adelaide Aboriginal community, Jada is the second born daughter of her family, and her Kaurna birth order name is Warruyu.

The 16-year-old is a Year 11 student who loves basketball and netball and has been involved in mainstream and community sports from a young age.

Jada loves being involved with the community, and she draws strength from being around her mob as this makes her feel strong within her identity.

After only starting in art recently, Jada is very honoured to be the designer of this season’s NBL24 Indigenous Round jersey. 

“I really enjoyed exploring a bit of history and current information about the club and then interpreting this into my design,” Fitzgearld said.

“This opportunity came about through the Aboriginal Basketball Academy which I attend every week, where myself and other students were given the opportunity to do a design a jersey.

“I was so grateful to be named a finalist and then ultimately win the competition. Go 36ers.”

OUR NBL24 JERSEY DESIGN
Tarndanya is the Kaurna name for the sight of Adelaide South and the River Torrens.

The blue lines being connected by circles represent the River Torrens which surround the stadium where the 36ers play.

The four faint yellow stars represent the championships the 36ers have won in the NBL and the little symbols that are surrounding the jersey number is the symbol for men, there are 15 of these symbols representing the 15 men that play on the team.

I have put my own personal spin on the top of the jersey, the little symbols that look like sideways E’s are possum tracks, this is because since I was born, my nanna gave me the nickname 'Possum'.

The bottom of the jersey has a symbol for flowing water which will represent the water as Adelaide sits along the coastline of Australia.

Circles on the back of the jersey behind the number to me mean everyone coming together as one to watch and support the team. The shorts are a continuation of the River Torrens.
