Trey Kell thrilled with Adelaide 36ers' response in huge win against NBL24 league leaders

Adelaide 36ers guard Trey Kell has commended his side’s faith and belief after Saturday night’s 100-96 win against Melbourne United at the Entertainment Centre.

Kell, who scored 24 points to go with 10 rebounds and five assists, said his side showed fight and was thrilled with the response after a two-game losing streak.

“It shows a lot of resilience on the group,” Kell said post-match.

“This shows we have a lot of pride, playing against a really good team, the best team in the league record wise.

“To come out and get a win shows the character of the team that we have.”

The 193cm guard has been given the point guard duties full time since head coach Scott Ninnis has taken the reigns, and Kell said the position is not new to him.

“Since college its something (play point guard) I’ve done naturally and a lot of people in Australia didn’t know,” Kell said.

“I’ve been a point guard in my career so far, so it’s something that’s natural to me.

“I’m not a selfish guy, I look to get others involved, I like to play the right kind of basketball.

“It’s good that Scott gives me the freedom to make plays and find guys and find that balance between scoring and facilitating.

“I’m enjoying doing it.”

Kell hit a dagger three-pointer with 70 seconds remaining after United had come storming back, erasing a 15-point deficit to just four points, sending the Adelaide Entertainment Centre record crowd of 9564 fans into a frenzy.

“It was great, the energy was amazing, we really appreciate the support they are still giving us, it means a lot and tonight was amazing,” Kell said.

“That second half when we went on some of those runs, it was super loud, we appreciate the continued support and hopefully they can bring that for the rest of the year for us.”

Home fans will get another chance to see Adelaide this week when the 36ers host Sydney Kings on Thursday night at the Entertainment Centre from 7pm.
