Adelaide 36ers shooting guard Craig Randall II has praised his teammates after a final quarter rally led to a 92-88 success against Sydney Kings at Qudos Bank Arena on Friday night.
Randall II, who finished with a game-high 24 points, including six three-pointers, with six rebounds ad five assists, said captain Mitch McCarron and seven-time club MVP Daniel Johnson were ‘huge’ down the stretch.
“He’s (McCarron) resilient, he’s a vet, we look for him, he’s our captain and DJ was big too,” Randall II said post match in the changerooms.
“DJ was big for us tonight and Mitch was special, we are a really good team.
“We are definitely getting better with each game and that’s a scary thing.
“We are good right now, but we are building to be really, really good.
“When we put it all together and it clicks all the time, then it’s going to be good for us.”
Randall II set the tone early as Adelaide took control of the contest in the opening 20 minutes, scoring 16 first half points as Adelaide took an eight-point lead into the main break.
“Big first half on both sides of the ball,” he said.
“That was big for us moving forward to that second half.”
After his first half offensive explosion, Randall II had to change his focus and become more of a facilitator in the second half, as Sydney roared back into the contest.
“Coaches were talking that before the game, the goal was to get eight assists,” Randall II said.
“I get too aggressive at times, but DJ was feeling it, RoBo (Franks) was feeling it.
“When it’s all on me, everyone is looking at me, my teammates are really good, and it can be anybody.”
Randall II said his teammates were ‘special’ in the final quarter comeback, as Adelaide turned a three-point deficit into a four-point success.
“We just make plays and I think today we stayed together,” Randall II said.
“That’s the one thing we have been working on is staying together.
“We showed we were tough on the road and that was good for us.”
