Born in Alice Springs, McCarron played US College basketball with the Metro State Roadrunners for three seasons, where he was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Player of the Year in 2015. Following college, he played in the Spanish League with Palencia Baloncesto before returning home to Australia in 2016 to join the Cairns Taipans.
