Wells: ‘Focus is on the team’

Adelaide 36ers head coach Mike Wells said his side has an emphasis on moving forward to the next challenge ahead of Saturday night’s home clash against Tasmania JackJumpers.

The 36ers will be back at home after the FIBA break and Wells said the group has made solid improvements.

“I have been focused on our players, and focused on our guys, we were in the FIBA break, we had a lot of guys who were in town a lot of the time,” Wells said.

 “I’m really focused on the team, we have had some really good wins this year and we also  had some outcomes that haven’t been perfect.

“We need to fix what we can control, which is how we are playing, how we are defending, and how the offense is functioning.”

Adelaide will face the NBL reigning champions without suspended import duo Kendric Davis and Montrezl Harrell, but Wells said there’s now opportunity for others to step up.

“We respect the leagues view in everything that happened, we are ready to play basketball,” Wells said.

 “We are ready to focus on the season, we have a really veteran, core group, we have a lot of guys that have played a lot of NBL games together, we will rely on their experience.”

Adelaide will be back on home court for the first time since November 10 and Wells can’t wait to return in front of the loyal members and supporters.

“It’s our fans, the best fans in the league, Adelaide has been unbelievable, the way they pack out the arena, the crowd, the noise, our guys love it,” Wells said.

“We feel their energy and we have to do everything we can to protect home court on Saturday night.”
