A dream come true for Thew

Adelaide 36ers development player Cameron Thew said it’s a ‘dream’ to be able to represent the club after he was signed as one of four development players (DP) for NBL23.
Thew, a 208cm forward/centre, joined the club from Queensland-based NBL1 side Northside Wizards, where he averaged 14.38 points and 6.75 rebounds per game.
Speaking to adelaide36ers.com, Thew couldn’t hide his excitement at being a part of CJ Bruton’s team.
“It’s obviously awesome,” he said.
“The last few years I’ve been playing, I know I’ve at least been looked at for DP spots.
“It’s my dream to be able to do this as a job.”
Thew added he’s been enjoying the professional set up, and he’s had some familiar faces to help him integrate.
“It’s been really good, it’s a step up from NBL1 or anything I’ve done before,” he said.
“The level of attention to detail is incredible, during any drill there’s always a coach telling me what to improve on, where to be.
“It’s great having players I’ve played at Wizards with like (Anthony) Drmic and Mitch (McCarron), the team as a whole has been great.”
The move to the 36ers completes a journey he’s been on since he was young
“I started playing when I was really young, about 6 or 7,” he said.
“I stopped and took a break to play with my friends, be it soccer or footy.
“I made new friends in high school and they played basketball, I started playing club through that.
“I never played any rep, I wasn’t in those circles or knew about going to trials.
“After school I started playing under 21s, QBL, NBL1 and now I’m here.
“It’s crazy looking back at it, but it’s exciting to be here.”
