The Adelaide 36ers are pleased to announce the signing of forward Todd Withers for the NBL22 season. The 25-year-old, 203cm North Carolina-born forward boasts both US and European experience in an emerging professional career. In 2018, Todd began establishing his credentials as an elite ‘do-it-all’ forward during his first season for the Grand Rapids Drive in the NBA G-League. His G-League form piqued the interest of the Drive’s NBA affiliate, Detroit Pistons, who invited Todd to be part of their 2019 NBA Summer League squad where he averaged 10 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. In a second season with the Drive, he continued his strong G-League play with averages of close to 11 points and 5 rebounds per game, and a 30-point performance against the Windy City Bulls. Todd's career path started with a four-year college career at Queens University of Charlotte in his home state of North Carolina. Receiving Division 1 NCAA offers directly following his freshman season, Todd chose to stay for the Royals program from 2014-2018. Recognition followed as he named a first team All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches after senior season averages of 13.6 points, 8 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game.
Todd is excited to make the journey to Adelaide and join the team, “I’m thankful to have been given this opportunity by the Adelaide 36ers. I’ve heard great things about both the League and the Club, especially recently with Josh Giddey being drafted in the NBA, so I’m excited to make my way down to Australia and start training and playing with the team.” Chairman Grant Kelley, welcomes Todd to the Sixers. “Todd came to us very highly recommended by our US-based scout, Damon Stephenson. We have been impressed with his work ethic, hunger and talent. 36ers fans will love Todd Withers." General Manager of Basketball at the 36ers, Jeff Van Groningen, believes the intensity Todd brings will be an asset to the Club. “Todd is committed and driven as a player and this strong-minded approach has been a constant in his career. He’s defied the odds to rise from a small school background to the heights of a professional career which includes his last season in the Serie A in Italy and he’s been a heartbeat away from the NBA and is still being watched in that regard. We look forward to Todd bringing this drive to the Sixers and helping us win.” Adelaide 36ers Head Coach, Conner Henry, is excited to start working with Todd. “With the addition of signing Todd to our roster we feel like we’ve gotten significantly better. He brings a level of defensive intensity and understanding of the game that can only help us in important games. Really excited to get Todd to Adelaide and get to work. Welcome Todd!”
Todd Withers joins fellow American Dusty Hannahs and other newly signed players Mitch McCarron, Mojave King, Kai Sotto, Manny Malou and Tad Dufelmeier, as additions to the NBL22 season roster, joining Isaac Humphries, Sunday Dech and Daniel Johnson on the team.
