Adelaide 36ers captain Mitch McCarron says his side is ‘digging deep’ on the back of a three-game winning streak.
The 36ers held off South East Melbourne Phoenix 94-88 on Christmas Eve at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, McCarron highlighting the defensive effort.
“You got to be able to defend if you want to have success in this league and we gave up way too many easy ones and way too many points in that first quarter,” McCarron said.
“Then that second quarter we really brought it back a lot and got back into the game.
“I think the group understands that and we are going to continue sending that message from the coaching staff and the players on the floor.
"We just got to be consistent.”
McCarron said his side knows now what it takes to get wins and are working on getting momentum in their favour as the campaign moves quickly into the new year.
“The guys are digging deep at both ends of the floor and it certainly isn’t perfect for us, but the guys have bought in to fixing that and we are going to stay aggressive,” he said.
The 189cm leader copped another hit to his already battered nose during the win against the Phoenix, but isn’t to worried about cosmetics right now.
“It wasn’t really fixed, so I don’t know if I have broken it or re-broken it, but we will figure it out after basketball,” McCarron said.
“You get use to it, it’s been moving that much, it is what it is.”
McCarron, who scored 16 points on Christmas Eve, said his side is looking at mismatches more, which may include him posting up smaller guards.
“We just have to pick our match-ups, sometimes that might be me, sometimes we might want to see RoBo (Franks) down there or DJ (Johnson) or Kai (Sotto) or whoever it is, it will be game and match-up dependant,” McCarron said.
“I’ll try and post up when I can.”
Adelaide’s next assignment is against Brisbane Bullets at the Entertainment Centre on Thursday night.
