Nick's starting to find his rhythm

Nick Marshall didn’t even realise he was in the starting five for Adelaide’s win against Overtime Elite until head coach CJ Bruton called out his name in the locker room.

Marshall, who had a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds in the 36ers’ 86-81 win, said he was surprised when he heard his name called.

“CJ put my initials on the whiteboard and I didn’t even see it until he said it,” Marshall said.

“Found that out in the locker room before the game, I’m happy with that.”

The 198cm swingman let his game do all the talking and he would have impressed several NBA scouts who were watching on.

“I felt good out there, got comfortable but I started a little bit slow,” Marshall said.

“Once I got a rhythm my game just took over.”

Marshall’s second half was particularly impressive and he had the veterans jumping up and down and cheering from the bench.

“I just went out there and I was in the moment, let my game do what I do,” Marshall said.

“Sometimes it goes in, sometimes it doesn’t and today lucky for me, it went in.”

He was the only 36er to score in double figures and he also iced the game at the free throw line, stopping a late charge from Overtime Elite.

“My free throws have been a bit up and down recently, but with the NBA ball it feels nice,” Marshall said.

The performance was extra special for Marshall, who was in economy class on the plane over to the US, while most of his teammates were relaxing at the other end of the aircraft.

“It was tight in there, I was lucky enough to have a free seat next to me, so I got a little bit of extra room, but I’m still very tight from that long flight,” he said.

“I should do that (ask for business class on the way home), but I think I’ll be in economy again.”

The quick turnaround has Marshall already focused on Phoenix Suns in 48 hours.

“I need to stay in the moment, play defense and hopefully we can get a win,” he said.
