Adelaide 36ers swingman Trey Kell believes his side is “right there” despite falling to a fourth consecutive defeat 109-100 to Sydney Kings at Qudos Bank Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The 36ers have had chances in all four matches so far in this NBL24 season and Kell is confident a few minor adjustments will see Adelaide opening their account sooner rather than later.
“The biggest thing is you look at every game and we have been right there,” Kell said after scoring a game-high 28 points against the Kings.
“There’s a couple of games you can look from the outside looking in thinking it was a blowout, but we are always right there.
“There’s been some key moments when the lead goes from two or four up to eight or 10.
“If we can stop those situations, we are really close to turning the corner.”
The 193cm guard/forward said his teammates have faith within the group a victory is just around the corner, Adelaide back on their home court this Saturday for the inaugural PINK SLAM game against Illawarra Hawks from 5pm.
Adelaide fought back from a double-digit deficit in the second quarter against the Kings to tie the contest three times in the third quarter, but the 36ers couldn’t get their noes in front.
The two-time reigning champions starting the final quarter with a 14-3 run which sealed the nine-point success.
“No one really expected much from us, but at the same time we have proven that we are not too far away,” Kell said.
“We have been playing good teams, we are close, the locker room believe we are close, and it’s certain tweaks we make and possessions we fix, and we will be right there.”
