Adelaide 36ers are pleased to announce Matt Weston will join the club as the new General Manager of Basketball Operations.
Weston has over two decades experience in basketball and business across the globe and joins the club in a full-time capacity after stints with the NBL, Chinese Basketball Association and NBA franchise San Antonio Spurs.
Adelaide 36ers CEO Nic Barbato said the appointment of Weston is a positive step as the club looks towards NBL25 season and beyond.
“Matt brings a wealth of experience to the club, and he has had similar roles across the world, including stints in the NBA and the NBL,” Barbato said.
“We are thrilled Matt has decided to join us and we are excited for the future.”
Weston, who is currently the general manager at NBL1 Central club Sturt Sabres, said he can’t wait to get back into the game of basketball at the highest level.

“The club has been doing really well off the court, which is the hardest part, so now we have to turn that around and bring some success on the court,” Weston said.
“I’ve met with Grant (Kelley, Adelaide 36ers Executive Chairman) and Nic and the more we spoke about the club and the vision, the more I got energized, the game is in my blood and I’m an Adelaide guy now.”
Weston was assistant coach at the Sydney Kings from 1998/99 to 2002/03, then moved to West Sydney Razorbacks for two seasons before taking his career to China, where he was technical director for the Chinese men’s and women’s national teams for the 2006 and 2010 FIBA World Cup and the Beijing 2008 Olympics.
“I used to be at the other end coaching against Scotty (Ninnis, 36ers head coach),” Weston said.
“Now, I look forward to be on the same team.”
Weston, who was the Head of Scouting in Asia for San Antonio Spurs, said he can’t wait to get involved as the club build towards NBL free agency.
“The pieces we have got already are good ones,” Weston said.
“I look forward to getting involved and building towards the future.”
