Adelaide 36ers captain Mitch McCarron will continue to build his frequent flyer points after travelling to Bahrain for this week’s FIBA World Cup qualifier.
The Boomers play Bahrain at Manama Stadium on Thursday before flying back to Australia to play Iran in Bendigo next Monday.
“It’s going to be a long trip for the boys, it’s a lot of travel but that’s what comes with these qualification series,” McCarron said.
Along with McCarron, Adelaide 36ers assistant coach Jamie Pearlman and team manger Jared ‘Jazzy’ Campbell are also on the trip.
After captaining the Boomers to 2022 FIBA Asia Cup gold medal success last month, McCarron said as a leader of the side, his role is vital going into another campaign on the road.

“There is a few different guys coming in but it stays the same for us, we are playing for the national team and the ethos of the group stays the same,” he said.
“The guys who have been around the program, its our job to help out the guys who are new.
“We want to win and we want to play the right way.
“It doesn’t matter who the opponent is or where we are playing.”
The tough task for the Boomers will be to back up only 48 hours later on home soil, but McCarron said the thrill of playing in the green and gold in front of family and friends will be vital to the result.
“It’s awesome to play at home. We got some games in the past but it’s good to get back around Australia to hopefully play some more games moving forward,” he said.
