Cadee: 'We have to be ready defensively'

Point guard Jason Cadee said the Adelaide 36ers will be ‘ready to go’ for Saturday night’s inaugural PINK SLAM game against Illawarra Hawks at the Entertainment Centre.

The Hawks, who lost to the JackJumpers in Tasmania on Thursday night, travel to Adelaide for the back end of a road trip double header and Cadee said the 36ers must use this to their advantage.

“We have to really go after them defensively, they played last (Thursday) night so we have to make it a war over 40 minutes,” Cadee told the media on Friday.

“They have a lot of firepower with (Justin) Robinson and (Tyler) Harvey, so we need to control them as best we can.

“You’re not going to stop players like that, but we need to do a decent job and work hard at both ends and that will go a long way to winning.”

The 186cm point guard said the 36ers have had a tough week on the training court but are enjoying being back home for the next fortnight after a tough start to the season.

“It’s been nice to get back and get a little bit of rest this week after a big road trip to Perth and to Sydney,” Cadee said.

“I think we have been improving, but that’s has led to wins which is what sport is all about.

“Everyone is frustrated, we are all competitors, and we all want to win.

“But there is a realisation of where we are at and where we have come from and where we are trying to get to.

“We don’t have a lot of time, we need to put some wins on the board, we have played some decent patches across the past few games, they just haven’t led to wins.

“As a group, we can’t have lulls and it comes from bench input, we have a quick drop off and we let them back into the game,.”

Cadee said his side is looking forward to wearing the inaugural PINK SLAM uniforms and said special games like this is very important.

“Wearing the pink jersey represents something more, we just play basketball, it’s not the end of the world,” Cadee said.

“But it does feel like that at times and when you get to put a jersey on like pink and supporting breast cancer you realise it’s more than just a game.

“There is a lot more going on in the world that is way worse than us losing basketball games, so it kind of puts it all in perspective.

“Hopefully we can go out there and get a good win.”
