Dynamic duo lead 36ers past Breakers

An electrifying first half performance was the catalyst to Adelaide 36ers’ 94-78 win against New Zealand Breakers at the Entertainment Centre on Sunday afternoon.

In front of a 13^th straight sell out of 9505 fans, star import pair Montrezl Harrell and Kendric Davis led from the front in the 16-point success.

Harrell scored a game-high 26 points to go with eight rebounds, four steals and two blocks, while Davis added 23 points with 13 assists and five rebounds.

Star centre Isaac Humphries was again everywhere at both ends of the court for 12 points, three rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists and captain DJ Vasiljevic added 11 points with six rebounds and four assists.

Davis got scoring underway before Humphries attacked the basket to add two points from the free throw line.

Humphries continued to attack the basket before Vasiljevic found Lat Mayen (10 points, six rebounds) for a slam dunk, he then threw down another on the fast break for an early 10-3 lead.

Hustle from Vasiljevic led to a three-pointer from Mayen, who had seven first quarter points, before the captain swished a triple and then found Harrell inside for a 20-9 advantage.

Harrell showed strength inside before Davis scored on a tough drive as the 36ers took a 27-15 lead into the first break.

Davis scored to open the second quarter before Harrell took over, converting on a three-point play before throwing down a big slam dunk from a sweet Humphries assist.

Mayen swished his second three-pointer, Humphries continued to score and when Davis made a tough floater, the Adelaide lead extended to 41-25.

Davis converted on a three-point play, then Jarell Martin swished a three-pointer as the 36ers had four players in double figure points in the opening half, Adelaide taking a 57-35 lead into the main interval.

Harrell started the third quarter by converting a three-point play, and Davis continued to score, before a second, then a third three-pointer from Vasiljevic extended the 36ers’ advantage to 68-40

New Zealand responded with a 12-0 run to cut the margin back to 16 points as Adelaide didn’t score for four minutes before an athletic alley-oop finish by Harrell from a Davis assist.

Davis connected on a three-pointer, then Jason Cadee (seven points, three assists) swished another triple from the corner as the 36ers took a 79-58 lead into the final 10 minutes.

The Breakers reduced the Adelaide lead to 14 points (83-69) in the final quarter before back-to-back slam dunks from Harrell brought the fans to their feet.

Adelaide will be back on home court on Friday night, when the 36ers battle Brisbane Bullets at the Entertainment Centre from 7pm ACDT.
