'Everyone needs to be ready': Flowers

Adelaide 36ers Next Star sensation Trentyn Flowers has said his side needs to bring the energy for the full 40 minutes moving forward in the NBL24 campaign.

Flowers, who was the star of the show at the K-Mart School Visit at Nazareth College on Tuesday, said he will be ready whenever head coach CJ Bruton wants him to make an impact.

“It’s about keeping that energy throughout the entire game, we are just figuring that out right now and staying together as a group,” Flowers said.

“Everyone needs to be ready, whoever’s number is called, just being ready to step up and play a role.

“We just need to go out there and have fun, have no pressure on us and get back to winning and do what we do.”

The 18-year-old who again was the main attraction at Tuesday’s K-Mart School Visit, said it was a privilege and honour to help inspire the next generation of hoops stars.  

“It’s amazing to see, just seeing the impact us as basketball players have and playing for the 36ers and the kids truly look excited,” he said.

Across his nine-game NBL career, Flowers has averaged 5.9 points and 2.9 rebounds per game, including a match winning 23-point effort against Illawarra, but has had inconsistent playing time.

“It hasn’t been frustrating, it’s been a positive for me, it’s just about being ready and be able to do what I can do with the minutes I have, I’m an impact player,” Flowers said.

“Playing or not I’m still going to do my part and work hard, show up every day and do my job.”

The 206cm Next Star sensation said despite missing out on a place in the latest 2024 NBA Mock Draft released on Tuesday, he believes in the process of the NBL24 season.

“When it comes to Mock Drafts, it’s just someone’s opinion, if you notice a lot of dudes who have got drafted really high haven’t been on any Mock Drafts,” Flowers said.

“It doesn’t really concern me or matter, it’s all about my production and do what I do when I get my time on the court.

“Just keep doing what I’m doing and when my opportunity comes, he knows I’m going to be ready.”

Flowers will get his next opportunity when the 36ers host South East Melbourne Phoenix on Friday night from 7pm at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
