Star recruit Bryce Cotton has arrived in Adelaide eager to hit the court with his new 36ers teammates.
The Sixers shocked many by signing the five-time NBL MVP back in May.
After a stint playing in Puerto Rico and some time at home in the United States, Cotton arrived in his new home city of Adelaide on Saturday.
Speaking to local media at the airport, Cotton said he was looking forward to training with his new teammates starting on Monday.
“I'm ready for it,” he smiled.
“Obviously, I signed a few months ago, so it's been brewing, but to finally actually touch down on the soil, now it feels a little bit more real.
“There's been a lot of talk, a lot of chatter, but, you know, none of it matters until you go out there on the floor to get that feel, what it's like with the guys and seeing how quickly I guess we can get our chemistry.
“That's the exciting thing for me.”
Cotton was greeted at the airport by coach Mike Wells, club Chairman Grant Kelley, General Manager of Basketball Operations Matt Weston and teammate DJ Vasiljevic.
The 33-year-old had endured three flights over the last couple of days with his wife and daughter but was in good spirits, excited about exploring Adelaide and getting to work.
Asked whether he thought the side had what it takes to win the championship, Cotton said “I guess we’re going to find out, aren’t we?”, but he was clearer on who he was most looking forward to playing with.
“I've spoken to a few teammates,” he said. “But obviously, DJ's a hell of a shooter so it'll be great to play alongside of him because he's had quite some good games against (Perth) over the years, so I don't have to deal with that no more.”
While he admits to not knowing a heap about Adelaide other than it is “the city of churches” and that it’s not a big place, he was looking forward to playing at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in front of the passionate 36ers supporters.
“They're very rowdy crowd,” he laughed.
“The only difference is, you know, I'm on their side, so all of that'll be pretty new for me.
“All I can do is be me and hope everybody accepts me.”
Supporters will get their first glimpse of the new-look 36ers outfit in the NBL Blitz pre-season tournament in Canberra later this month.
The side will face reigning NBL Champions Illawarra on August 27 before backing up three days later against Tasmania.
