McCarron, Galloway in new NBL1 colours

A near triple double from Mitch McCarron wasn’t enough to lift his new side West Adelaide Bearcats to an opening round win of the 2023 NBL1 Central competition.

McCarron scored 16 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished eight assists, but the Bearcats fell 93-88 to last year’s grand finalists Woodville at Port Adelaide Recreation Centre on Saturday night.

The 189cm combo guard got upstairs to threw down a trademark slam dunk, but the Bearcats couldn’t close the deal, the Warriors outscoring West 19-9 in a frantic final quarter.

Fraser Roxburgh had five points and three rebounds off the bench in his NBL1 debut for West and Anthony Drmic scored a game-high 24 points to go with nine rebounds and six assists.

The Bearcats are back in action on Friday night against Norwood Flames at The Arc.

Kyrin Galloway had a big double-double in Ipswich Force’s 79-73 win over Red City Roar on Sunday afternoon.

Galloway scored 23 points and hauled in 10 rebounds as the Force came back from a seven-point quarter time deficit for the six-point success.

Ipswich travel to the Gold Coast on Saturday night to play the Rollers.
