Support Mitch in Father's Day quest

Adelaide 36ers captain Mitch McCarron has been nominated to win yet another accolade this off-season.

McCarron is among 10 elite Australian athletes vying for the Philips Sports Dad of the Year award to be announced on Father's Day on Sunday, September 4. 

Now in its 14th year, the award showcases the contribution Australia's sporting elite make to their families both on and off the field and highlights 10 elite athletes across a range of sports, giving insights into how they juggle fatherhood with their sporting commitments. 

McCarron’s focus is on winning this year’s NBL23 championship with the 36ers after recently leading the Australian Boomers to the gold medal at the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup in Indonesia, but his biggest achievement these days is his one-year-old son, Oslo.

“I think Oslo has just brought a whole new perspective to life in general,” McCarron said.

“I’ve always loved playing basketball, but now it’s no longer the most important thing in my life. I’m very lucky to have my wife Abby and Oslo.”

And Oslo could be as big a fixture at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre this season as his dad.

“I’m sure he’ll make some appearances this season,” McCarron said.

“He’s desperate to get onto the floor after games and get a ball in his hands.”

McCarron’s wife, Abby, said to see Mitch’s emotion and excitement when Oslo was born is an image she will never forget.

“For Mitch, family is everything to him. He’s truly loves being a dad,” Abby said.
