Adelaide 36ers star Robert Franks said ‘the energy is high’ after he and his teammates returned from Darwin on Friday having claimed the Loggins-Bruton Cup as NBL Blitz champions.
The 36ers came back from 19 points down during the second to defeat Illawarra on Thursday night to finish unbeaten.
Franks said it was great to get the victory over the Hawks.
“The comeback was really good for the team to see we can overcome adversity,” he said.
“Our energy, our defence brought us back. When we play in transition we’re really good and we’re able to get stop after stop.
“The ball started moving and it started getting contagious and fun out there.
“Obviously it’s great to go up there and go undefeated, but we’ve still got a lot to improve.
“It’s a great start for us especially when we head to the States next week.”
Franks added the team had plenty of opportunities to gel and learn about one another on the trip to the Northern Territory.
“You get closer with the guys, rooming with them and being with them 24/7 on the road you get to know their personality more, not just on the basketball court,” he said.
“We went to a lot of the other games and scouted the other teams as a group, it was very hot up there.
“The energy is high right now, it’s very competitive, everyone is gelling and I’m very content with where we’re at as a team, we just need to keep that rolling.
“What you saw and more is what to expect, us being competitive, us rallying and getting at it…showing that we can have that sense of urgency when we need to and get gritty in games.”
