'We have to stay aggressive': Kell

Adelaide 36ers import swing man Trey Kell says his side needs to stay aggressive ahead of this weekend’s road trip double header to Perth and Sydney.

Kell said the 36ers had winning positions in both games last round and need to tidy up on a few areas to start getting into the winners’ list.

“There’s a couple of things, we must be better at finishing possessions, we give the other team too many offensive rebounds, too many second chance points,” Kell said on Wednesday.

“We have to stay aggressive, there are too many guys, myself included that have missed some shots they are capable of making.

“I think if we make those shots, I think the games will have different outcomes.

“Staying confident, staying aggressive and shoring up the defensive end I think will turn some of these close losses into some wins."

The 36ers face arch-rivals Perth Wildcats on Friday night at RAC Arena, before backing up on Sunday afternoon in Sydney against the reigning champion Kings.

“Everyone is saying it’s a tough road trip but to me it’s just two games,” Kell said.

“Obviously they’re two really talented teams, but I think every team in the league is talented regardless of where you go.

“It’s always tough to win on the road, but I think we are up for the challenge and try and get us that first win.”

The 193cm swingman said the 36ers have shown some renewed vigour and competitiveness this week on the training track, which will hopefully turn the fortunes around on court this weekend.

“(Training) shows we are not happy where we are at, we can easily use the excuse that we are missing an import or we had injuries during the pre-season, but at the end of the day we are 0-2 and both of those games were games we could have won,” Kell said.

“We are looking to turn that around this weekend.”

Kell is back to full fitness after missing the NBL Blitz due to bone bruising on the knee and is looking forward to making a bigger impact against the Wildcats and Kings.

“I feel good, we are just building back, I missed a couple of weeks with my knee injury, I missed the Blitz, physically I feel fine, I’m ready to go,’ Kell said.

“I put a lot of pressure on myself, so I don’t pay any attention to the outside noise.

“I know that we need me to do a little more, or more than normal without having that third import, but at the same time you just go out there and play basketball and try and leave it all out there on the court.”
