Wells says sole focus on Tassie test

Adelaide 36ers head coach Mike Wells said his side is focused on the next challenge only heading into Friday night’s battle against Tasmania JackJumpers at MyState Bank Arena.

The 36ers travel to Hobart on the back of a two-game winning streak after victories in Sydney against the Kings and at home against Melbourne United last round.

Wells said the 36ers are locked in on a ‘game-by-game’ mentality and can not afford to look ahead in the NBL25 schedule.

“We will focus on Tassie next, I think this group is got to just focus on everyday we just got to get a little bit better,” Wells said.

“You want to be ready for big games and our big games have come sooner.

“We got to win games, we got to win games now, we have a sense of urgency.”

The 36ers responded last round against two top three opponents and Wells said there is a lot of belief within the group.

"I think everybody in that locker room believes that we're a top team in this league,

“I think we have the talent to be a top team but we've had some things going on that we haven’t been able to control,

“The group's been resilient, and they've stuck together through all of that."

Heading into Friday night’s showdown against the reigning NBL champions, Wells said his side has grown over the past two months.

"What you're seeing is a group that's had to go through a lot of adversity for a lot of different reasons, and we've kind of come out the other side of it now and we're finally getting our feet under us," Wells said.

“We have gone through a lot of things and we are finally on the other side.

“We know the pressure is on us to play well, we don’t have a lot of margin for error at this point.

“I think you are seeing some of the fruits from that labour now, to challenge them at different times.

“As we go down this stretch, our energy is in the right place and I do think we have a group who can play different styles, we are locking in on the defensive side of the ball it allows us to play different ways on offense.”

Adelaide will be back in action on Friday night when the 36ers travel to Hobart to play Tasmania JackJumpers at MyState Bank Arena from 7pm ACDT.
