Davis ‘legit NBA guy’ says Weston

Adelaide 36ers GM of Basketball Operations Matt Weston says new import point guard signing Kendric Davis is a ‘legit NBA guy’.

Davis, who signed a one-year deal on Thursday, is a 180cm point guard who was named in the 2024 NBA G-League All-Rookie team.

Weston said the club had been working on getting the Davis signature for well over a month and watched him play for Portland Trail Blazers at the Las Vegas NBA Summer League this week.

“He is a legit NBA guy, we have lent on our NBA network very heavily for this,” Weston said.

“He is really well respected and has a high ceiling and they have said the best way for him to get to the NBA, is going through the NBL.”

Davis had a team-high eight assists in the Trail Blazers’ 97-95 win against Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday.

“(New lead assistant coach) Mike Wells has spoken to him long and hard and he can see this (NBL) is a realistic pathway (to the NBA),” Weston said.

“We have done almost the college recruiting type of way.

“I’ve spoken to his mum, I’ve had long conversations with her, old coaches from high school, coaches from college, NBA scouts, NBA executives, we have done a lot of work on that.

“I’m really excited with what we have got.”

Davis is expected to arrive in Adelaide by the end of the month.
