Alex Starling was everywhere for South Adelaide on Saturday night in NBL1 Central, but it wasn’t enough for the Panthers to get past the league-leading West Adelaide Bearcats.

Starling scored a game-high 31 points to go with a game-high 11 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals, but the Panthers were playing catch-up all game in the 95-82 loss.

The Bearcats opened up a 33-17 lead after the first 10 minutes, but the panthers stormed back into the contest to only trail by one-point at the main break.

South Adelaide took the lead 61-60 midway through the third quarter, but West Adelaide had all the answers down the stretch.

The defeat sends the Panthers to fourth in the NBL1 Central standings with an 8-4 record and will have this weekend off before making the trip to Wayville to battle Forestville Eagles.

Keanu Rasmussen also had a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds as the Sturt Sabres made a statement with a 118-82 win against North Adelaide Rockets on their Springbank home court.

The Sabres are now at 9-3, along with the Bearcats and Eagles as the NBL1 Central standings tighten at the top of the table. Sturt will play West Adelaide in the next round on June 17.

In NBL1 South, Nick Marshall remains sidelined with an ankle injury, but his Mount Gambier Pioneers snapped a five-game losing streak.

The Pioneers had every quarter in their 102-80 success against Kilsyth Cobras on the ir home court at Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre last Friday night.

Mount Gambier remain in seventh position on the standings with a 7-5 win-loss record ahead of Friday night’s crucial home clash against Diamond Valley Eagles.
