Humphries, Vasiljevic to start pre-season early

Adelaide 36ers centre Isaac Humphries said he will link up with DJ Vasiljevic and be back on the training court as early as next week.

The club’s marquee signing pair will be doing up to three workout sessions per day more than a fortnight before pre-season begins.

Humphries, who was at the July School Holiday Clinics powered by HomeStart Finance, said after speaking to Vasiljevic, the pair both believed this was the best option going into the NBL25 season.

“There was not much Boomers chat, he was straight into what we are going to do training wise and how we are going to get the best out of everything,” Humphries told media on Thursday.

“We have a plan starting next week and we will start working out together.

“I thought it was important for me and him to get out there and start working put together and building on that relationship. We are already so close, but it’s more about understanding where we want to move on the court.

“We are doing three sessions a day as of Monday.”

The 211cm big man said he’s ready to go after his off-season included a relaxing, globe touring vacation, without any phone contact, to recharge the batteries after his club MVP NBL24 season.

“I feel pretty good, but it’s pretty early, you’re preparing for pre-season, and so much happens in pre-season,” Humphries said.

“It’s about getting yourself back into that season mode, understanding you will be around the team for the next eight months.”

Humphries believes the club can build on the back end of the NBL24 season, where the club won seven of its last 10 matches, including the last five matches at home at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

“When teams win, everyone wins, everyone looks good when you’re winning,” Humphries said.

“The back end of last year we were really good, we went on a streak there, it was just a little bit too late.

“Hopefully we have learnt from that, and we can start the re year how we finished.”
