Marshall ready for Boomers second coming

Adelaide 36ers swingman Nick Marshall can’t wait for his second taste of Boomers action this Thursday night in Bendigo.

Marshall, who will join teammates Isaac Humphries, DJ Vasiljevic and Mitch McCarron in the Boomers 12-man team for the two 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualifying games, said a second opportunity to pull on the green and gold singlet came as a surprise.

“I was not expecting the call at all, I was lucky enough to do it last year, which was another surprise, but I can’t wait to go and represent Australia,” Marshall told SEN SA after Sunday afternoon’s 76-70 win against New Zealand Breakers at the Entertainment Centre.

“It’s cool to be able to go and play with those guys, and I know some of the other guys in the team as well.”

The 198cm swingman, who has been a mainstay of the starting line-up during the back end of the NBL24 campaign, said he has flourished with his newfound role on the 36ers team.

“I’m playing my game, trying to get other guys easy looks and adjusting to what the defence gave me,” Marshall said.

“I was guarding the best player and offensively it’s all about crashing the boards, setting ghost screens, getting other guys involved.”

Marshall’s assignment during Sunday’s win over the Breakers was to curtail the influence of NBL24 MVP candidate Parker Jackson-Cartwright.

“He is lighting quick and he is one of the quickest dudes playing basketball all around the world, it was tough,” Marshall said.

“We were happy for him to shoot threes. He did make a few because he is a great basketball player.”

After holding a 16-point lead in the fourth quarter, the Breakers came storming home to get within one basket of the 36ers, but Marshall was thrilled his side held on to finish the season on a high, winning seven of the last 10 matches.

“It wasn’t pretty, but we got the job done, which is all that matters,” Marshall said.

“It was good to finish with a win, which is nice for the fans.”

The Boomers will face South Korea in Bendigo on Thursday, February 22 at 6pm ACDT before they play Indonesia in Jakarta on Monday, February 26 at 11.30pm ACDT.
